History of the Dupont Group

Edward C. Dupont founded The Dupont Group in 1992 after serving five terms in the New Hampshire State Senate, representing District 6.  While a Senate member, Ed served as Majority Leader and as Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee. Through his work on the Finance Committee and as chair of other policy committees, Ed developed an extensive knowledge of utility, technology and banking issues. He co-chaired the joint Senate/House Committee that developed the first comprehensive reorganization of State government in over twenty years; these efforts led to the consolidation of a number of state agencies, including the creation of a new Department of Environmental Services.

In 1990, Ed was elected President of the Senate. During his tenure as Senate President, he established and chaired the State’s first standing legislative committee on economic development. Under his leadership, the Legislature adopted initiatives to stimulate capital formation, established the State's economic development fund, provided research and development assistance for emerging companies, and reformed the state's Business Profits Tax (BPT) to include tax credits for job creation and capital investment.

After finishing his final term in the Senate, Ed was approached by a number of firms to be their in-house expert on governmental affairs; however, he was encouraged by family, friends, political and business leaders to establish The Dupont Group.  Ed’s active involvement in both the government and business communities has provided him with the knowledge and experience necessary to build and maintain solid working relationships with government and policymakers for his clients.  Ed Dupont was named one of “New Hampshire’s 10 Most Influential People” by Business NH Magazine in 2003 and in 2006.  He was elected Chair of the University System of New Hampshire’s Board of Trustees in 2008. He continues to be one of New Hampshire’s top lobbyists in earnings, clients and reputation.

James Monahan joined The Dupont Group 1993 and became Vice-President in 1998. He is also the founder and principal of White Birch Communications, the public relations and communications arm of The Dupont Group. Before coming to The Dupont Group, Jim worked for the NH Senate and in election politics
